Alzheimer's Society - Memory Walk London · 18 September 2011 ·
On Sunday 18th September, I will be walking ten miles through London in aid of the Alzheimer's Society. Memory Walk is the Alzheimer's Society's flagship fundraising event. Since 2002, Memory Walk has raised over £1,700,000 for people living with dementia. The money raised through Memory Walk will be used to fund our local services, so by sponsoring me you will be showing your support to people affected by dementia in your community.
* There are currently 750, 000 people living with dementia in the UK
* This figure is set to rise to 1 million by 2025
* 1 in 3 people over 65 years old will die with dementia
My much loved Granddad had Alzheimer's. It's a cruel disease - lots of people are under the misconception that having Alzheimer's just means forgetting a few things every now and then but it's much more than that. Seeing someone you love very much losing precious memories, forgetting who you are and seeing them become upset at the deterioration of their own memory is really hard. I will be walking in memory of my Grandad: a wonderful, hard working, kind and decent man and for all the other families out there who are currently coping with the devastating impact of this disease.
The Alzheimer's Society helps friends and families enjoy their time together so that they can share happy memories for as long as possible. That's why I am encouraging you to sponsor me to take part in Memory Walk 2011.
