Story

Miss Mermaid Anglesey 2019!

Miss Mermaid Who? - Miss Mermaid UK is a totally unique experience, for mer-minded people across Wales, Scotland, England and Ireland. It consists of underwater rounds, an eco creativity round, talent and the ever-favourite opportunity to wear an evening gown! This year we're raising money for Sea Shepherd UK - https://www.seashepherd.org.uk/

Can I Get A Ticket? - Miss Mermaid UK Final tickets are available here - https://www.hireamermaid.co.uk/miss-mermaid-uk/miss-mermaid-tickets/

What's Sea Shepherd? - They're an international non-profit marine wildlife conservation organisation, established in 1977, with the mission to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world's oceans, in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.

Who Am I? - I'm Jeni; I have always been a water baby, and I find myself most comforted when near (or under) the water.

I started SCUBA diving around 6 years ago, desperate for the opportunity to swim with sharks, and I have since worked my way up to becoming a PADI Divemaster, with the help of Anglesey Divers along the way. From there, I discovered my passion for freediving and am currently working towards my AIDA*** qualification with Apneists UK; where I will be required to dive down to a depth of 24m on a single breath. I train every week in Crewe Lifestyle Centre and I now have a static breath-hold of over 3 minutes. I'm also a new member of the Performance Mermaids pod, who perform in aquariums across the UK. I have been involved with performing arts for the majority of my life; having danced since I was 3, sang in choirs at the Eisteddfodd, performed at The Royal Albert Hall, and I am now taking classes in aerial hoop at High Aerial Studio in Shrewsbury.

Following my love of the ocean, I spent a year volunteering one day a week as an Aquarist at Anglesey Sea Zoo, where I learned a lot about the sea life found along the UK coastline, as well as how to properly care for the many different species and how to maintain their exhibits. I study Marine Zoology in my spare time, and I am a Volunteer Marine Mammal Medic for BDMLR; working my way towards becoming an Advanced Medic.

Over the past few years, I have also created a Dementia-Friendly Shopping Time in a local supermarket, fundraised for Blood Bikes Wales and completed a tandem skydive raising £1,024 for the D-814 Craig Steadman RNLI Inshore Lifeboat in Barmouth; presenting the cheque in an underwater exchange. This lifeboat was named in memory of my step-brother Craig, who had been a member of the Holyhead RNLI Crew.

I love the ocean and everything within in, and taking part in Miss Mermaid UK presents the FIN-tastic opportunity to help raise vital funds for Sea Shepherd UK.

What Do I Get? - For donations of £5 and more, you could WIN a pair of tickets for Rib Ride UK's Bridge's & Swellies trip - worth £50! You can find more information about the trip at: https://www.ribride.co.uk/anglesey-boat-trips/bridges-and-swellies/

Any donations are greatly appreciated, and are sent directly to Sea Shepherd UK.

Keep your fins crossed for me! :)
