Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-shortening genetic condition that slowly destroys the lungs and digestive system. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity fighting for a life unlimited, when everyone living with CF can look forward to a long, healthy life. www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk

Story

Hello everyone!

The item at the top of my bucket list is to run the London Marathon before I’m 40.

I’ve been inspired so many times watching other family members and friends run through that gorgeous city and in awe of the guts and sheer determination shown by every single runner each year as they raise money for amazing charities and prove our human bodies are capable of some amazing physical feats.

I’ve been unsuccessful in getting a ballot entry for the last 8 years...... but this year has unexpected opportunities and I have been gifted the opportunity to run in the virtual event. Held on the same day as the rescheduled main race, I can participate from anywhere in the world and still claim my medal and finishers t-shirt! Most importantly of all I can still raise money for charity; the key motivating factor behind so many runners decisions to take on this challenge in the first place and keep slogging through the miles of training.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-limiting genetic condition. It affects the lungs and digestive system and can cause chronic infections and reduced lung function. Currently, half of those with CF will not live past age 41. I’m raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust who are working towards a brighter future of a ‘life unlimited’ for everyone with CF by funding cutting edge research, driving up standards of care and supporting people with their condition and their loved ones every step of the way.

We’re seeing the impact of this disease through the life of our little mate Josh and I’m inspired by his heroic approach to everything and by his equally amazing parents and how they go about their lives living with CF.

I’d love to ask you to consider supporting  my efforts through giving to this most incredible cause so that money can go towards supporting families like Josh’s, through practical help or through research and treatments.

If you live in or around Geelong I have an equally important non monetary request to ask of you. On Sunday 3 October I have to run my 42 km alone, and not with 35,000 other runners as l envisioned my one and only marathon to be. If you’ll be free sometime from 10am onwards and could come and stand somewhere on my Barwon river running loop and cheer me on and perhaps pass me a banana I’d be eternally grateful!

If you’d also fancy joining me for a kilometre jog or two (or five!) I’d be thrilled. It’ll be a long lonely day doing it by myself and I fully expect my phone battery to die so come and join me somewhere on the route and give me a wave.

Save the date for now and all route information and after party details tbc nearer the time!  (NB the clocks go forward that morning).
