Marie Curie Hospice, Cardiff and the Vale provides expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness and their families

Story

Dad fell ill just before Christmas, and his illness progressed so incredibly fast, it was difficult to take it in. He was diagnosed with Colon Cancer which had spread to his liver and lungs and we were told that it was untreatable. By the new year it was apparent that the disease was progressing extraordinarily quickly.

We hoped that we might have a few weeks left with him, but Dad always was someone who got on with things once he had set his mind to them. And so on Friday 11th January 2020 at just before 3pm he passed away.

Dad didn't want a funeral. He thought they were a waste of money. So Mum and I have decided to ask that any money that you might have spent on travelling to his funeral or on sending flowers could be donated to Cardiff and Vale Marie Curie Hospice so that more families can be cared for as well as we were at this hardest of times.

Thank you,

Shirley and Jennie

Marie Curie says, "Our nurses, doctors, therapists and social workers provide expert care and support both to the people staying with us at the hospice, and in the local community. Each day at the hospice is special. By getting to know people as individuals, we help them do what is important to them whether thats getting out into the hospice garden to enjoy the views across the sea, having a beloved pet visit come to visit or sharing precious moments with their loved ones.We need to raise £8,311 per day to run the hospice, so every penny counts."
