Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The Fire Fighters Charity is designed to provide services that enhance quality of life for serving and retired fire fighters, fire personnel and their families. Heroes of the community and selfless individuals.
My Grandfather, Michael Dacy, was a hero. He started as a volunteer fire fighter with the Rancho Cordova Fire Protection District in 1961, and was hired as a full time firefighter two years later. It only took two further years before he was promoted to Lieutenant and in July 1968, he was promoted to Fire Marshal. He lived up to his reputation as a hard worker, becoming Deputy Fire Chief in 1979. Six years later, he was appointed Active Fire Chief when the existing Chief went on sick leave and eventually retired. Finally, in 1987, he was promoted to Fire Chief for Rancho Cordova.
In July 1989, Rancho Cordova went through a consolidation process and became the Sacramento County Fire Protection District. In October of 1989, my Grandfather took the reigns as Fire Chief for the entire district - that year, the Sac County Fire Dist had 318 employees covering 127 square miles and a population of approximately 275,000.
Firefighters like my Grandfather are pillars of the community and are heroes to many, including me. Mike is no longer on this earth but will remain my hero for the rest of my life and lives on through his teachings and family. We should support these heroes when they need us, just as they save the lives of so many every day.
Firefighter's Prayer
When I am called to duty, God,
wherever flames may rage,
give me strength to save a life,
whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child
before it is too late,
or save an older person from
the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert,
and hear the weakest shout,
quickly and efficiently
to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling,
to give the best in me,
to guard my friend and neighbor,
and protect his property.
And if according to Your will
I must answer death's call,
bless with Your protecting hand,
my family one and all.
Amen.
