MS-UK is here to support anyone affected by multiple sclerosis (MS), which affects over 150,000 people in the UK. We empower people with MS to live healthier and happier lives by improving the understanding of the condition and providing support where it is needed most.

Story

As many of you know, I have wanted to run the London Marathon for years, but there has always been something getting in the way or holding me back...... Well..... it's time!  I can't promise you a super quick time, but I can promise you a smile on my face the whole way round!

I am raising money for a charity called MS-UK.  I have several friends with MS, all of whom have received help from various MS charities, and I have decided to run the Marathon for this charity because one of my oldest friends was diagnosed in 2013.  She went through a really tough time - dealing with what was happening to her and coming to terms with this life changing news.

At times she didn't know who to speak to or what support was out there for her.  The help she received from MS-UK was invaluable and helped and supported her in her transition back to work.  The help and information they provide is free, and there are people there to speak to - whether you need legal guidance, advice on the latest drugs and trials, or just someone to talk to.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system. MS is an autoimmune disease, where central nervous system cells are attacked by the faulty immune system. Messages from the brain are disrupted causing them to slow down, become distorted or not get through at all - causing scarring and lesions.

About 100,000 people in the UK have MS and of these, around three quarters are women. Diagnosis is usually made in adults between the ages of 20 and 40, although it is possible for both children and older adults to develop MS.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, any support you can offer this charity (and me!) would be greatly appreciated.

Love Jen
