OCD Action's vision is of a society where Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is better understood and diagnosed quickly, where appropriate treatment options are open and accessible, where support and information are readily available and where nobody feels ashamed to ask for help.

Story

I have recently been affected by OCD and I am currently on Fluoxetine (an SSRI) to combat it. It's hard and I want to help others who may be affected by it and also raise awareness of the condition. That sounds strange because everyone has heard of OCD, but not for what it really is. OCD is so much more than being neat and tidy - in fact mine is probably far from that (although I can be a perfectionist at times!). So many people use OCD as an adjective or personality quirk, when in reality it's really not something you want to be associated with because it's actually like having a tiny bully in your head telling you that if you do/don't do certain things real bad things will happen and you don't get a (long) break from it. This shows OCD is a DISORDER - as suggested by its name Obsessive Compulsive DISORDER. What many people describe is usually being a perfectionist or specific personal preference, not OCD, and I want to change that.
