Support the Migrateful chef Solidarity Fund

Migratefuls solidarity fund offers weekly grants to our chefs who are asylum seekers without the right to work or recourse to public funds, enabling them to pay for some of their basic needs such as transport and food.

Story

I am running the marathon on 5th April in Paris to raise money for Migrateful’s solidarity fund. As a type 1 diabetic, running 42km is not going to be an easy distance to achieve but I am going to give it a go!

Migrateful, a charity I founded in 2017, helps migrants, refugees and asylum seekers on their journey to employment and independence by supporting them to lead cookery classes.

Every day at Migrateful we see the reality of what the hostile environment policy means; forcing people into destitution and homelessness. Over half of our chefs are destitute asylum seekers, without recourse to public funds, unable to legally work whilst waiting on average 10 years to get their immigration status.

The Conservative government is failing to protect its most vulnerable people. There has been a 165% increase in rough sleepers since they took over in 2010. A lot of our chefs are not eligible to free healthcare so they try to survive without it. The story of the Ethiopian asylum seeker who needed chemotherapy but was not eligible to NHS treatment and so tragically died last month, highlights the true inhumanity of this policy.

So to support our chefs suffering at the hands of this policy, I am running the Paris marathon to fundraise for Migrateful’s solidarity fund. This fund offers our asylum seeker chefs a weekly grant which will pay for some of their basic needs such as transport and food.

If you can spare a quid or two to sponsor me to run 42km and help keep our chefs out of destitution, that would be fantastic.

Thank you 😀
