Great North Run 2022 · 11 September 2022 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

I will be running the Great North Run in September in memory of my Grandad, who sadly passed away a year ago.  Growing up my relationship with Grandad wasn’t the stereotypical grandparent-grandchild relationship, he wasn’t able to drive us grandkids for a day out, take us on trips or even just playing football in the back garden. But, regardless, he was still our Grandad. He showed his emotions in many different ways; whether that was issuing his orders for a cuppa or poking us with his walking stick to get our attention. But, after every visit he would always make sure he kissed us goodbye and hugged us in his own special way. We never left without a kiss and a hug goodbye. Grandad may not have been able to speak to us and tell us how much he loved us, but we knew. We knew how much he loved and still loves us. So, I will not complete the Great North Run and drag my legs round 13 miles just for me, but I shall be doing it for all of the grandkids. To show him just how much he meant to us and how we wish we had more time to show you that we loved you twice as much as you did us. We love you Grandad, always…
