Story

On the 17th November, we lost our beautiful house mate and dear friend Bertie Crawford to the demons in his head. It is truly frightening that last year there were 6,000 suicides in the UK, and of them, 75% were males. The fact that it is the most common cause of death for men aged 20-50 reveals the cruel extent of stigma they experience. It is truly monstrous that these binary narratives of 'boys don't cry' and 'man up' still prevail at such magnitude. Indeed it takes a colossal amount of strength, courage and bravery to expose vulnerability and ask for help. We need to revitalise mental health discourses and create more platforms like The Samaritans to dismantle stereotypes and encourage people to talk.

This charity is for a cause many will unfortunately be all too familiar with and in support we are putting together an event at the Island on the 8th of February in memory of Bristol's biggest techno fan: Bertie, to raise money and awareness.

We will have a donation box at the event and all profits made will go to The Samaritans. If you can't make it, this page is for anyone who would like to contribute towards helping a good cause, where any donation is appreciated.
