Story
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit the Fabulous 50 JustGiving page.
What has inspired me to finally get off my backside and take part in some challenging physical activity at the grand old age of 50 is that for the last 6 years I have watched my lovely 21 year old goddaughter Georgia Cutts deal with an illness known as M.E. (Myalgic encephalomyelitis ). It is a very misunderstood condition and it has stopped Georgia from being able to do all the typical things a teenager should do. She is in pain a lot of the time but doesn't complain. Sometimes the effort of lifting a knife and fork is too much for her. Her mum has worked tirelessly to raise funds and awareness and so it's time to put down the crisp packet and get on my bike and do something to help! Luckily the London Duathlon is taking place in September this year............
Georgia's chosen charity is Action for M.E. the UK’s leading charity for people affected by this long-term, disabling condition. As a charity they receive no government funding and their work is made possible by the generosity of supporters, members and fundraisers.
Very little research is undertaken on M.E. so sufferers are left with little hope of a cure and live with a condition with no end in sight. Georgia was very active before M. E. struck and she would love to take part in this challenge but she physically can't.
So a group of us Teresa Simmonds, Marty Simmonds, Wayne Collins, Joanne Smeed, Neil Park, Caroline Boyd, Matt Boyd, Alison Cutts, Matty Cuttsare either competing in the half London Duathlon (5km run, 22km cycle and 5km run) relay Duathlon and the Duatlon itself (10km run, 44km cycle and 5km run) in Richmond Park on Sunday 18th September 2016.
