Jo's Marathon Mission in memory of my Mum

London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm running (walking/crawling) the London Marathon on 21 April, which for a woman who's the wrong side of 40 and really not built for running is quite a crazy thing to do really! I'm doing it in memory of my Mum and for St Lukes Hospice, a truly amazing place!
My Mum, Pam, died at St Lukes on 18 May 2016, her 66th birthday, after a long and brave battle with Bowel Cancer. As a family the support, care and love we received from the Hospice was above and beyond anything we expected and I will be forever grateful that Mum's last few weeks were spent somewhere where she was comfortable, safe and every need was met at any time, day or night.
Mum started using the Hospice as a day patient, attending classes and therapy and they would provide the transport there and back. She loved going and made so many friends there. As her health deteriorated volunteers would come and sit with my Mum overnight so my Dad could get some much needed sleep. And finally, once she was admitted nothing was too much trouble, for her or her visitors. They even had a party planned for her birthday.
Losing a loved one is something no one ever wants to go through but seeing them comfortable, dignified and at peace in their last few days really does make such a difference.
St Lukes is entirely funded by charity donations. Every little really does help families like mine in their time of need.
This one's for you Mum!
