Story
It started with a simple suggestion........ lets swim round the Scilly Isles. We all jumped on the wagon without reading, how far we had to swim or how fast. Now here we are facing an enormous challenge in just three weeks time. We have been training since the early part of the year, and we're about as ready as we're going to be. 15km swim over 24 hours; 6 swims 6 short walks. We're cyclists not swimmers what were we thinking!!
My godson took his own life when he was 23 years old, William Madsen, he would have been 30 in July this year; we will never know if things could have been different if he had friends trained to recognise young peoples struggles with mental health issues and help him.
Raising awareness of mental health issues within young people is a very personal issue for many people. If we can cover the cost to train one representative within a sports club who may be able recognise when a young person is struggling it will be all worthwhile.
The Nathan Tomkins Trust was set up to raise money in Nathan’s name to directly support clubs, groups and societies that support the rural youth across South Worcestershire and the surrounding areas to raise awareness and support for Mental Health. TNTT provides Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention training for youth leaders and teachers. Alongside this training we also provide financial aid to Clubs and Societies to raise awareness and support for Mental Health Illnesses, through in house schemes.
