Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My hair has always been my crowning glory. For most of my adult life it has been very long and I have been blessed with thick, dark locks. In my professional life I teach hairdressing and I know how important our hair is to us all.
In 2008 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer after finding a lump. In early 2009 I had the lump removed and then underwent chemotherapy treatment. This was very traumatic as the treatment left me very tired and weak but worst of all my hair fell out. I remember it was a very cold winter and being very sensitive to the chilly winds when I felt fit enough to venture outside. Losing my hair was a blow to my confidence but I was fortunate to receive a real hair wig through one of the Breast Cancer charities. I had a pink wig too for when I was feeling particularly down. The wig really helped and though it wasn't a replacement for my real hair, it helped me feel "normal" through the months of treatment.
My treatment worked and in Summer 2009 I was thankfully given the 'all clear' from the doctors. This was such a relief for me and my family. I have been growing my hair since.
But it's time for a change and I want to have my hair shorter, but I can't bare the thought of my locks going into the bin! So I would like someone to benefit from my hair. I will be having about 30 cm of hair cut off by my students at Brooksby Melton College on 5th May 2017. The hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust who make wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or illness. I don't run any more or do any of those physical challenges but donating my hair is my way of helping just a little. If you are able to help by donating to this worthy cause that's fantastic, your help will really be appreciated by the children receiving your gift.
