Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Our 3 year old boy Joe has cerebral palsy. He is fortunate that it only affects him physically and mildly. His legs and arm muscles (especially on his left side) are tighter than normal, so while he can walk he does so with what he calls 'his wobbly legs' and feels the effects after an especially long walk.

Joe has a friend called Jamie who he met when he first started physio and who also has cerebral palsy. Jamie is currently unable to walk independently but has been offered the opportunity of the SDR (selective dorsal rhizotomy) operation at Great Ormond street children's hospital. This is a life changing spinal procedure to reduce the tightness in his legs and will hopefully give Jamie the chance to walk. While the operation is covered on the NHS, the treatment and rehabilitation after (which are just as important as the operation) are not and so Jamie and his family are faced with the challenge of raising £30,000 to cover this.

Joe has decided that he wants to help his friend and is taking part in a sponsored walk on Monday 4th May. He will be walking a mile, which doesn't sound very far but for Joe is a huge distance. These boys are amazing and truly inspiring. They don't moan or complain and they approach every challenge with huge smiles and determination.
