2017 Aberdovey Bike Ride · 16 June 2017

Mary Stevens Hospice provides specialist holistic care free of charge for adults with life-limiting illnesses and their families in the Dudley Borough. More than 80% of the £3.5m annual costs are paid for by donations and funds raised by supporters from a compassionate, local community.

Story

In memory of my friend Richard Archer who succumbed  to bladder cancer in December 2015, I am riding from Wolverhampton to Aderdovey on Friday June 16th, it's quite a long way on a bike at 105 miles, especially when you're fat, unfit and 51. Any money I raise will be donated to Mary Stephens Hospice in Stourbridge.

Dick was a remarkable human being, from a devastating accident as a child, he went on to become a fiercely competitive rally driver, building a team and car that won the Turkish Rally Championship for Opel. Anyone that knew Richard will realise his encouragement would amount to calling me a, "Useless fat Brummie *#€$+*." We got on very well together. It was a travesty that cancer got him at the age of 61.

Aberdovey Bike Ride is an annual charity bike ride to raise funds for local charities. It has been operating since 1992 and has provided a charity bike ride each year. They are proud to say 100% of all donations reach the charities, all operating costs are from entry fees and all organisers & support crew provide their time free of charge.
