On August 4 2021, the anniversary of my wife, Ros Weight’s birthday, John Weight (that’s me), Jim McBride and with Janis (his wife) providing backup; intend to complete the walk of Hadrian’s Wall in 5 days with the intention of raising over £10,000 for St. Richards Hospice; in gratitude for the fantastic support they provided for not only my wife Ros, but also myself.
Last year was the worst year of my life and it wasn’t because of Covid. My beloved wife was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer in January 2020 and passed away in May.
Ros bravely decided not to go along the path of chemotherapy, but instead spend as much time as she could with her daughter, grandchildren, family and vast number of friends. This proved to be a blessing for us all as we got to spend quality time talking, reminiscing, laughing and joking during her last weeks in the beautiful garden she had nurtured and loved.
She painlessly passed away in her own home with the wonderful support of St Richard’s hospice; who supported her as well as me, with ceaseless compassion, sensitivity and care - facilitated by the two wonderful nurses who will always fondly be remembered as the two Sues!
We have set up a ‘Just Giving’ site to enable others, when they travel this difficult journey, to experience the kindness, support and professionalism which St Richard’s generously provide.
For those of you who would like to support our cause and join us, we would like to raise over £10,000.
If you would like to join us on our walk, you are more than welcome - although you will have to do it under your own steam as we only have provision for two!
