Tour De Yorkshire - 100km · 30 April 2017

Our mission is to provide bike maintenance training opportunities, resources and environments that support rehabilitation of people in prisons in order to help break the cycle of re-offending as well as undertaking preventative work in the community. Refurbished bikes are donated to people in need.

Story

I am taking part in the Maserati Tour De Yorkshire on Sunday 30 April 2017 to raise money for the charity I work for, the Margaret Carey Foundation.

I started volunteering for the charity 2 years ago at community events, helping people to fix their own bikes. I started working for them a year ago as a part time bike mechanic and have recently taken a full time role at their new community project, the MCF Bikery in Shipley.

I cycle a lot but this will be the longest single ride at a fast pace that I will have done - 100km on some pretty hilly terrain on the same roads that the pros will ride on. It's a serious challenge that I am determined to complete - I am even going to embrace the lycra when I do it!

The charity is asking all the cyclists that ride on their behalf to raise £150 in sponsorship but I know how important it is to them to raise as much as possible so have set my own target at £500.
