Margaret Carey Foundation MCF

We get offenders working to pay back to society and help people in need. We rescue old wheelchairs and bicycles from the tip and get them fixed up in prison workshops. Prisoners perform useful work that has a real benefit - the refurbished goods are sent to people in need in the developing world.

Story

I am taking part in the Maserati Tour De Yorkshire on Sunday 30 April 2017 to raise money for the charity I work for, the Margaret Carey Foundation.

I started volunteering for the charity 2 years ago at community events, helping people to fix their own bikes. I started working for them a year ago as a part time bike mechanic and have recently taken a full time role at their new community project, the MCF Bikery in Shipley.

I cycle a lot but this will be the longest single ride at a fast pace that I will have done - 100km on some pretty hilly terrain on the same roads that the pros will ride on. It's a serious challenge that I am determined to complete - I am even going to embrace the lycra when I do it!

The charity is asking all the cyclists that ride on their behalf to raise £150 in sponsorship but I know how important it is to them to raise as much as possible so have set my own target at £500.
