Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Anthony Simkins - John's father and Katie' grandfather - was one of many thousands of prisoners of war attempting to reach safety after Italy surrendered in September 1943. The Monte San Martino Trust was founded in gratitude to the Italian people for their bravery in sheltering PoWs. It gives bursaries to young Italians to study in the UK, many of whom are descendants of families who gave refuge.

We are joining a Freedom Trail to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Armistice, which came into effect on September 8th 1943.

Sponsorship will go towards the Trust's Appeal launched to secure the future of its bursaries.
