Story
This year Steve Bigley fell ill with Oesophageal Cancer, and in a cruelly short amount of time it took his life. He was our best mate Ian's step-dad, and a bloody great guy too. In the latter stages of his life his was cared for by Weston Hospicecare, who not only looked after him but his family too; offering comfort at the most difficult time imagineable. It's easy to think that these places are all paid for by the government but the reality is they're not. Palliative care is hugely expensive and takes a massive amount of money each year to keep going. Weston Hospicecare only gets 20% of it's funding from the government - the other £4 million...yes FOUR MILLION POUNDS EACH YEAR needs to be fundraised and donated - that's where we come in; that dosh comes from awesome people like you who dig deep and donate a bit of cash. So I'm going to run the Yorkshire Marathon in October - by all accounts marathon's are pretty tough, but a walk in the park compared what Steve and his family went through. You might not think it, but a few quid genuinely makes the difference to people going through the worst thing imaginable. Just think about that, you can change someone's life by clicking a button, pretty amazing that eh? A final thought; Steve was a lovely guy - warm, friendly and always a gent to be around, but Cancer doesn't care. It's not fussed about who you are or what you do, it's just not arsed. So if there's ever anything that doesn't feel right, anything that you're worried about or is nagging - get it checked out, there's too much to lose and too much to leave behind.
