Story

Some of you will know that 5 years ago I had bowel cancer which I was lucky enough to survive through early diagnosis, a good surgeon and a loving family. I recorded my journey on www.jonsbum.com which is still active and plots the saga in reverse order.

I am also mindful of an old friend Sue. We were both diagnosed with bowel cancer at the same time but unfortunately she was not so lucky as me and lost her brave battle.

Now its time to give something back and to road test my bum once and for all with a 100 mile bike ride. I have never ridden any distance  before and I even had to buy my first road bike 3 months ago! I am still at a loss as to why there is no suspension and the saddle doubles as a wedge.

I very much hope you can share the ride with me by donating to Beating Bowel Cancer. Each £100 enables a trained volunteer to talk to groups in the workplace. raising awareness.

Each year more than 40,000 are diagnosed with bowel cancer, but if caught early, more than 90% of cases can be treated successfully.

Beating Bowel Cancer advises people to go to the GP if they have any of the following symptoms for three weeks or more:

  • A change in bowel habit
  • Bleeding from the bottom or blood in your bowel motions
  • Pain in your abdomen
  • Lump in your abdomen
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Unexplained tiredness, dizziness or breathlessness
I had a change in bowel habit and went to my GP. It saved my life.
Thanks for your kind support and check out www.jonsbum.com for updates.
