Nephrotic Syndrome (NS) affects approx 10,000 people in the UK, majority are children, with no known cause or cure. The current treatment is non-specific and highly toxic, with many potentially life-threatening complications. NeST funds Bristol Children's Hospital in researching NS to find a cure.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My nephew Charlie was diagnosed with steriod resistant Nephrotic Syndrome (fsgs) last year and still has not reached remmission. He has just been taken off the 3rd line treatment as it has not worked and is going through a relapse and having a tough time. So in Summer 2016 i will be doing The fan Dance race to raise money to help with vital funding in finding a cure for this condition.

The Nephrotic Syndrome Trust, or NeST, was set up in 2005 by trustee David Yearsley whose son James sufferers from the disease.

Nephrotic Syndrome affects around 10,000 people in the UK. Doctors do not fully understand the cause and there is currently no known cure. But a dedicated team at the specialist Kidney Unit at Bristol Children's hospital is researching the disorder in hope of finding a cure.

Nephrotic Syndrome is a condition where the 'filters' in the kidney become 'leaky' and large amounts of protein leak from your blood into your urine. The main symptom is fluid retention (oedema) which is mainly due to the low protein level in the blood. Various diseases can cause nephrotic syndrome, some more serious than others. Treatment and outcome (prognosis) vary.
