Story

UPDATE 5 September 2022

Due to a torn Achilles’ tendon  I have had to withdraw from the 2022 London Marathon.

To everyone who has supported me and donated, thank you so much. Your support has meant the world.

I will be back in the future!

Jonathan

ORIGINAL POST

I have chosen to support Brain Tumour Research as over the last 32 years I have sadly seen both my father in law, David Michaels and one of my closest friends, Ashley Dolling succumb to the disease.

Both men were on the brink of starting their well-earned retirements – with much family love, friendship and fun to look forward to and I along with many others, miss them greatly, together with other family members lost to this illness.

What struck me with both David and Ashley, was that their symptoms were very similar and that the treatment they both received barely differed, even over such a long time interval. When I then spoke with some of the hard-working people at Brain Tumour Research, I learned quite how challenging brain tumours are from a diagnosis and treatment perspective, as locked inside the vault of the skull the brain is a very difficult organ to access. They also told me that brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.

So, in the last year of my 50s, running my first marathon will be an enormous challenge – an understatement! However, I am putting in the training and am receiving great support from my wife Jo, family, friends and colleagues, as well as from my running coach Julio.

Please give whatever you can, as your sponsorship will be very much appreciated by both me and by the charity.

Who knows? It may even help me run just that little bit faster too!

With grateful thanks.

Jonathan
