Story
By some miracle/ cruel twist of fate, I have got myself a place in the London Marathon.
This came around quite last minute initially, however since I gained a place COVID has meant that I’ve had over a year to train, which has seriously impacted my range of excuses for a poor performance…
I’ll be running for Pancreatic Cancer UK. Many of you will know that this is a cause that’s extremely close to my heart. A little over three years ago, Mum went to the doctors complaining of a muscular ache in her leg. She was diagnosed with this cruel disease and died weeks later. Most people are unaware that the survival rates for someone with pancreatic cancer have barely increased at all in the past 40 years, compared to amazing progress in tackling many other forms of cancer. PCUK aims to raise awareness and invest in research to help change this.
Their message is below:
‘Pancreatic cancer is a tough one but we’re taking it on. It is tough to diagnose, tough to treat, tough to research and tough to survive. For too long this disease has been sidelined. We want to make sure that everyone affected by it gets all the help they need. We are supporting those affected by the disease, investing in ground breaking research, lobbying for greater recognition of pancreatic cancer and being a voice for everyone involved in the fight. Together we are taking on pancreatic cancer.’
I do appreciate that the target is eye-wateringly high, and fully expect to take out a Wonga loan in Frankie’s name to cover the balance, but if you can chuck a bit of spare cash my way it would mean the world.
Cheers!
