We support people in the north of Scotland who are affected by cancer or a blood disorder. Working hand-in-glove with the NHS, we take care of the ‘big little things’, and we fund cutting-edge equipment and research. Every penny makes an impact as our operating costs are covered by Balmoral Group.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This year marks 10 years since my dad lost his battle to cancer. In memory of him I have decided to raise money for two cancer charities, Clic Sargent and Friends of Anchor. Throughout the year I will be carrying out different challenges to help raise a combined amount of £10,000 for the two charities.

On the 27th of November 2009 after making it through 1-year remission earlier on in the year, my dad lost his battle to a terrible illness, which has decimated families all over the world known to us all as "cancer". At 50 years old, fit and healthy my dad was diagnosed with throat cancer, not a smoker and like most enjoyed a beer at the weekend. My dad kept himself as fit as he could, but like many was unfortunate to attract the horrible disease. After a big operation , chemo and radiotherapy, the following year my dad was given one year all clear. However whilst on his summer holiday my dad was once again in pain and was later delivered the terrible news that the cancer was back and with one objective. Month's later the chemo courses decimated this once healthy and strong man and on November 27th 2009 we were delivered with the devastating news that he had lost his fight.

10 years on I have decided that I would like to raise money in memory of my dad for cancer charities. Friends of ANCHOR are a charity based in the North East of Scotland, Orkney and the Shetland islands. A charity organised to help supply medical equipment, cancer research and looking after the patients wellbeing, this charity has had a huge impact on people in the North East and beyond. I had the privilege to meet a young women that was looked after by Friends of ANCHOR and she was exceptionally thankful for all their support.

Throughout the year I will be doing different things to help raise money starting with 10 weeks of no alcohol.

January- 10 weeks no alcohol
February- Vegan for a month
March- Burning 10,000 calories in a day at The Unit Gym in Banchory.
