I have chosen Spinal Injuries Scotland as this is a charity that has helped a great many families, including my own, through a very difficult time. My brother sadly suffered a spinal cord injury over 3 years ago now. The impact of this on my family was profound. Everything changed. But through the support of our family, our friends, our community, the NHS, this wonderful charity and my brother's inspiring fortitude he is now in an incredible place. Recently engaged in fact! To his wonderful girlfriend who has been with him through all this.
This charity has provided some fantastic events: BBQ's, fish and chip nights in the spinal unit. Some of which I have been able to attend myself. My brother has spoken highly of the information evenings Spinal Injuries Scotland have put on, from insights into living with a spinal injury to wheelchair maintenance. Such events do immeasurable good to those who have suffered a spinal cord injury.
For this reason I wish to give something back to this charity. My girlfriend and I are running the Edinburgh Marathon to fundraise some money for this charity that has done so much for my brother and our family. We hope to give a tiny contribution to the colossal good they do.
P.s I realise it says in memory of James. He's very much alive and well. I set the page up like that and can't seem to change it. So just to clarify, he's not dead.
