The Anderson Family have decided to take their camping holiday a bit later than usual this year. We will be camping out - on the pavement - outside our house on Saturday 7th December in support of the Big Sleepout being arranged by The Evening Standard in Trafalgar Square on the same night. Unfortunately we are unable to join the main event as they do not allow under 18s to attend, hence the need to sleep out a little closer to home.

I see the harsh reality of homelessness every day in my job working for Citizens Advice at St George's Hospital. Being homeless is extremely dangerous and the life expectancy of a street homeless man is 47 years and for women is 43 years - a staggering statistic in one of the world's most developed economies.  Paradoxically, Ian works in planning and development, and spends much of his time engaging in a very different housing crisis debate; why we are not building enough homes across the country, particularly of a type, and in locations, where they are most needed. It's difficult not to see the irony in this.  

We will be raising money for Crisis - a national charity - who help people directly out of homelessness and campaign for the changes needed to solve it altogether.  We know that people are inundated with requests for cash throughout the year and that you probably have more than enough to be thinking about in this busy festive period but if you can spare a couple of quid, we would be very grateful. And if you live in the vicinity of SW18, please pop in and say Hello - we would be happy to set up a deck chair for you next to the fire pit for a couple of hours!
