Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Judith’s family want to run and raise funds to support the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, in particular the Critical Care Department, as a small expression of their thanks for the skill, care and compassion.

Judith lived with Scleroderma, an autoimmune disease, for 18 years and showed strength and stoicism throughout that time. Sadly she lost her battle on 8th January this year aged only 57. Judith passed away in the QE, as her father and mother had done 10 and 8 years earlier. The family live on knowing that all three were given amazing care and lived their best lives as long as they could thanks in part to the QE team.

Judith’s family set up a Facebook page to remember her called "Stones of Strength". It invites anyone to place stones painted with the words “Live Your Best Life” in a random act of kindness for others to find to share Judith’s strength, stoicism and love. Judith had found such a stone herself a few months before she died and she was truly moved and uplifted by it. Over the past 8 months, Stones of Strength have been placed and found all over the world, with the last two unbelievably hidden in the distant shores of French Polynesia and Bali. Judith loved travel and would be thrilled and touched to know she is encouraging so many others to Live Their Best Life.

Judith’s husband Phil, daughter Annabel and sister Alison decided to run the GRN to support the QE's Critical Care Department, sadly, injury has prevented that dream for Alison who is thrilled that Annabel’s boyfriend Krys offered to run in her place. Training for a half marathon is hard but nothing compared to what Judith went through every day for 18 years. The team in Critical Care go to great lengths to support people like Judith and families such as our's, day in and day out. Please help us raise funds to support such an amazing team.
