Story
The CT & MRI department at Queen Alexandra Hospital are raising funds for a wall mounted relaxation video player that can be watched by patients undergoing a MRI examination MRI scans are crucial in the diagnosis and treatment for many of our patients. On average over 50 patients a day use the QAH MRI service.
An MRI scan can be quite a daunting one, especially for children. Some children cannot tolerate a MRI scan and may need to have their scan under general anaesthetic. As you can imagine, this adds a certain amount of risk and should be avoided where possible.
The idea is that patients will be able to focus on their favourite film or TV show and not worry about what is going on around them. It allows the patient to have something to focus on and distract them from the loud noises the MRI scanner makes. The relaxation system the department is fundraising for has been proven to significantly reduce the number of children who have required a MRI scan under general anaesthetic. It has even been able to help people who suffer from claustrophobia. There are many other initiatives the taking place within the CT & MRI department, such as LEGO MRI scanners for children and Virtual reality MRI scans. Virtual reality MRI scans allow the patient to experience a scan in the safety of their own home or during a consultation.
With so many innovating and exciting ways to bring real change to the patients that use the CT & MRI service, now would not be a better time to donate. Thank you!
