Islastones Foundation

I live in Leicestershire and in July 2018 Isla Tansey passed away of DIPG, a childhood cancer with no cure, 7 years of age and just 7 months after being diagnosed.  Her legacy is born out of her interest in painting beautiful stones for family and friends to hide and for people to find, there is a an #islastones face book page where people upload photos when they have found a stone and then they re-hide for someone else to find.  This group now has more than 75,000 followers and in the summer were successful in achieving a world record for the most painted stones to be in one place and there were an astonishing 8,500 stones were painted and sent by people to break the record.

It is a heart-breaking diagnosis and Isla’s family want to share and raise awareness of childhood cancer as there is very little funding into this area of research. DIPG has a 0% survival rate, only 10% of children survive 2 years following their diagnosis and less than 1% survive for 5 years, the average survival is 9 months from diagnosis.

This group has always been about bringing smiles to people’s faces. The group has brought communities together, helped children understand about care and compassion and the difficulties other children face in their lives and also gets children and adults alike out and about promoting physical and mental wellbeing.

Islastones Foundation will raise awareness and continue to fund research into DIPG and other childhood cancers and help overturn this 'terminal' prognosis.   They will also fundraise to support children and families affected by childhood cancer to take short breaks.

Due to COVID the charity’s opportunity to raise funds have been limited so this raffle will support their mission and vision.

I want to thank you for reading this and if you are able to for donating towards a charity that I am supporting in raising awareness for Childhood cancer and specifically DIPG.

Good Luck everyone
