In December 1992 I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia at 36 weeks. My midwife got me admitted to Arrowe Park Hospital maternity unit and I was monitored there until I went into labour at 38 weeks. My son was born weighing 6lb 5 ozs and he is now a strapping 26 year old.

I feel so thankful that we both survived this frightening experience but I’m aware that others have not been so lucky and so that is why I will be swimming the length of Lake Windermere in July in just my swimsuit. I am also going to join a team of 3 other ladies in October when we will be hoping to swim across the English Channel to France.
