Juliette's London-Edinburgh-London Challenge

London-Edinburgh-London · 30 July 2017
On 2nd May 1992 my wonderful, dear friend Nicola Barter died of cancer. She was 28. This year marks the 25th anniversary of her death. Last month, Danny Turnbull, another truly remarkable person died of cancer at 42, leaving two young sons. In the last two years, my good friend Ashley has lost both his wife, Nicki, and his niece, Heidi, to breast cancer. The list of lives lost is long, this is just a few.
Yes, in the last 25 years, since #2MAY 1992, cancer stats show a marked improvement in survival rates, but still there are far, far #2MAnY dying. We need to do more to change this, we need to raise much, much more money for Cancer Research UK to continue their work; we need to beat this. Too many loved ones gone. They are names, they are not numbers, not official statistics, they are people we miss every day, people with whom we never got to share the future.
Please join me in making a difference, in remembering those who have died. Add your donation and the name(s) of your loved one(s) stolen by cancer. Send me a picture of them and a few words in memoriam for inclusion on this page (see how below). Let them not just be another cancer number. Together let's reduce the future numbers so that others do not have to suffer the pain of bereavement. Let the #2MAY, when I remember Nicky, be the day we say #2MAnY.
To focus minds on fundraising, I am undertaking to ride the London-Edinburgh-London event, starting on 30th July. The route covers 1433K, and my target is to finish in less than 100 hours (roughly 220 miles per day). To inspire me when the going gets tough I will take pictures of Nicky and Danny with me. I will also take a list of the names of all those you want to remember. At the end I will record a video, a roll call of our loved ones, every name you give me, spoken out loud. This ride will be dedicated to their memory.
Regular updates will be posted, so please do check back. Following your donation, your thank you email will outline how to send your photos and tributes, these will be added below. This journey is about more than the physical effort over one week in the summer, it's about a movement that we instigate together, you become a part of it with your support for me. Together we say #2MAnY.
