Story

In January of last year I lost my Mam to secondary bone cancer which spread to her brain.
She was a wonderful woman. The only way I can think to describe her is that she was like sunshine, she was always smiling and optimistic. She gave her whole life to helping others, she was a fantastic children's nurse who passed on her knowledge and wisdom to each generation of student nurses, who loved her. She was extremely patient focused, making wonderful connections with them and their families.
With the help of my close family, for the final four weeks of her life she and I moved into the Marie Curie hospice. The staff there were just amazing, everyone from the consultant to the tea lady were exceptional human beings who turned a very difficult time into a bearable experience. They treated my mam with such dignity and respect and were so caring and loving towards me and my family. I never felt alone even in the darkest of days. Most importantly they made it possible for me to stay there, to ensure that my mam was never left alone, something I will be so grateful for, for the rest of my life.
To give thanks, I decided to launch the 'Just one day' appeal to raise £60,000 - this is what it costs to run the 9 Marie Curie hospices for just one day. I want to raise awareness about just how much they need to keep going! The work they do is priceless to their patients and their families. So far I have had tremendous support from my amazing Dad, sisters and friends, we have done all sorts to raise money!  Check out the facebook page!  And if anyone has any ideas for fundraising I'm very open to suggestions! (Anything but heights- I don't do heights!!) Together we can make such a difference! Since all of this started  I've been overwhelmed by the warmth and generosity of others and it has given me a focus which has helped me through the grief. How amazing will it be to one day hand over £60,000 and not just say thank you but really show it.

Love to you all, let's do this ❤️
