10,500 people in the UK have ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Not many people have heard of the dibilitating neurological condition Ataxia, neither had I until my Uncle started to feel unwell.  Since his diagnosis my mum has now developed the condition.  It affects people differently, mum, bless her, can no longer stand or walk, she cannot read, her speech is slurred and sometimes she struggles to even hold a fork.  The outlook for mum is very bleak, in time she will be confined to bed and her whole body will shut down.  The type of Ataxia mum has is very rare and hereditary which means all of our family are going to be tested including myself.  This can't happen until new equipment arrives in Sheffield from America which we hope will be this Spring.

Unfortunately at the moment there is no cure which is why we need to raise as much funds as possible.  Most of you know that I have been raising money and awareness of breast cancer for many years and I will continue to do so but for now I hope this event will be the first of many opportunities I have of supporting Ataxia UK.

So please please please if you can donate even just £1 to this cause I and many others will be forever grateful. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity.
