Please take time to read my story...

I would like to raise awareness for postpartum depression and suicide. This is a tragedy that me and my family have suffered with and has had a huge impact on all of our lives and has changed our lives forever. Not only did we lose a sister, we lost a daughter and a mother to 2 beautiful little girls.

My sister took her own life 09/08/2018 after suffering in silence for 7 months, leaving her 2 little girls behind as she felt this was the only way out. If only she knew there was resources to support and help her.

I want to get the message across that there will always be someone there to help, Speak to family, speak to friends, seek professional help, there is always something there.

Are you aware that there is a mother’s and baby’s unit specifically for women suffering with postpartum depression? Because we didn’t until it was too late and we hope that no one else has to experience this heart ache.

I am hoping by doing this that this information will be handed out routinely to all new mums so they know they are not alone and have nothing to be ashamed of.

Once I have raised my target of £300 for this charity, I will be shaving my head with a #2 guard.

This explains exactly what postpartum depression is:

Postpartum” means the time after childbirth. Most women get the “baby blues,” or feel sad or empty, within a few days of giving birth. For many women, the baby blues go away in 3 to 5 days. If your baby blues don’t go away or you feel sad, hopeless, or empty for longer than 2 weeks, you may have postpartum depression. Feeling hopeless or empty after childbirth is not a regular or expected part of being a mother.

Postpartum depression is a serious mental illness that involves the brain and affects your behavior and physical health. If you have depression, then sad, flat, or empty feelings don’t go away and can interfere with your day-to-day life. You might feel unconnected to your baby, as if you are not the baby’s mother, or you might not love or care for the baby. These feelings can be mild to severe.

Mothers can also experience anxiety disorders during or after pregnancy.

Thank you.
