Story
Hi - great to see you here on my JustGiving page!
How are you feeling today? How often are you asked that question, very often I should think, I know I am! A VERY brave & courageous friend of mine once told me that they never get asked that any more, because when you have cancer - no one wants to know the 'real' answer. However they insisted I ask every time I spoke to them & the answer was always the same - 'I am feeling lucky, thanks - how about you?!' I remember laughing & thinking that it was very brave to make us all laugh as we could not believe that anyone that ill could feel lucky - but now that my lovely friend has gone I know exactly what they mean - they felt lucky because that day, they were still with us, well enough to spend a little time with their friends, families & children which when you are in your thirties is exactly where you should be.
Every time I am asked that question I still smile & inside I know I am lucky - even though I often feel far from it - I never got to say good bye to my childhood best friend who lost her long & brave battle with Breast Cancer, I watched one of my Uni friends bravely smile despite the chemo on his fortieth birthday, listened to him talking about how excited he was waiting for the birth of his first daughter, only to attend his funeral when his daughter was about three months old. I have been to far too many funeral of friends who have died young so why do I feel lucky - I am lucky because I am still here - still have time to spend with my friends & family & with their help & yours I also have the opportunity to help others suffering with cancer & raise money for Macmillan & you are lucky too, because you are well enough to be reading this page & helping me to raise much needed funds for this amazing charity, in the memory of those who were in the end not lucky long enough.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now & also next time someone asks how you are today - just remember, you are one of the 'lucky' ones.
With love & thanx
