We fund long-term, sustainable research to find a cure for brain tumours

Story

On 31st October, I will be rowing a marathon at our home gym in Cumbria. I will do this on a Concept2 rowing machine in order to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research. I have been training hard for this marathon since the end of April. My love and huge thanks go to my coach, Col (Retd) Ian Horn MBE late RAPTC (happens to be my husband!) and also much love and many thanks to my old Judo buddy Paul 'Scouse' Cahill who inspired me to do this. Paul has already achieved his marathon at the end of July, and has been mentoring me all the way.

Brain Tumour Research Charity is one we are keen to support as our own daughter Hannah has personal experience of brain tumours.

For much of her early years, Hannah suffered from unknown
illness until in 2007 she was diagnosed with Craniopharyngioma and associated conditions: Pan-Hypopituitarism (
a condition in which the
production and secretion of all hormones by the pituitary gland is reduced, this is a serious and sometimes fatal disorder)
and
hypothyroidism-myxoedema (this
occurs when your body doesn't
produce certain crucial hormones). Craniopharyngioma is a rare
non-cancerous brain tumour which affects the pituitary gland and nearby structures of the brain. Although considered benign it can be deemed malignant in its behaviour. Many people diagnosed with craniopharyngioma have their tumours removed and go on to live normal lives however, unfortunately, this is not the case for Hannah. Due to regrowth, she has undergone 4 major brain surgeries which has caused significant trauma to her brain causing her to suffer from debilitating pain on a daily basis. The last craniotomy she had left her registered partially sighted and with a deteriorating condition. Hannah also suffers with chronic fatigue, depression & anxiety, drop attacks and other impairments. Due to her health conditions, Hannah has been unable to pursue a career and she requires support and long-term management of her health.

In spite of all that Hannah deals with on a daily basis, she is a strong, determined, and vivacious young woman. She has a beautiful singing voice and is a talented and creative crafter.

Please help where you can and let us hope we can make a
