Story
I have entered into the Vélo Birmingham 2019 in aid of Alzheimer’s Society. The Vélo is a challenging 100mile bike ride that begins and ends in Birmingham city centre on May 12th 2019.
Dementia is a progressive condition that currently affects over 850,000 people in the UK. This is estimated to rise to well over 1million people by the year 2025. The average annual cost to the UK economy is £30,000 per patient with only £90 per patient spent on dementia research. We are all aware of the deverstating effects that this disease can have and not just on those living with the condition but their loved ones too. Alzheimer’s Society supports those living with dementia and their families, and funds research into how to treat and manage the condition.
As you will see in the image above, I have never really taken cycling seriously. I could probably count on two hands the number of times I’ve gone out on my bike in the past 4years never mind an endurance challenge like this. However, I know the months of training and prep will be worth it if I reach my target, so please help me to support a cause that is close to many of our hearts.
