We train Medical Alert & Bio Detection Dogs to save lives by detecting human disease

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In August last year i was lucky enough to be matched with the most special dog I could have wished for called Marla.
Marla is a Medical Detection Dog and has been trained to detect and warn me when my blood glucose levels are dropping too low or going too high. I don't always recognise when my blood glucose falls dangerously low and I am at risk of having a seizure or becoming unconscious, this is a worry at night as I will not wake up. My Mum would regularly check my blood glucose levels throughout the night while I slept. But now I have Marla to keep me safe, we are all much happier and relaxed.
I would love it if Medical Detection Dogs could train more dogs like this to help other people with medical conditions but they are very expensive to train, it costs £11,200 with ongoing yearly support costs of £750.
The charity is wholly reliant on donations and receives no government funding.

About the charity

Medical Detection Dogs trains dogs to detect the odour of disease. Our research includes cancer, Parkinson's and other diseases and could save millions of lives by improving diagnostics. We already help people manage complex, life-threatening medical conditions by training Medical Alert Dogs.
