My triathlon in aid of Patterdale Mountain Rescue

The 9bar Helvellyn triathlon · 2 September 2012
Thanks for dropping by!
In September of this year, 2012, I will be taking part in my 2nd Helvellyn triathlon. This is a fantastic, scenic and challenging race and last year I enjoyed every minute of it. The swim route is one mile across the width, and around the first island in Ullswater, my favourite lake; followed by a cycle of 60km up Troutbeck, down to Thirlmere, through St John's in the Vale, up Dunmail Raise through Grasmere to Ambleside, then ascending The Struggle at a gradient of 1489ft and a gradient of 1 in 4, and back down the Kirkstone Pass to Glenridding, squeezing on those brakes; culminating in a 15km run up and down Helvellyn, England's 3rd highest peak at over 3000ft.
I've been working hard, and I will continue to do so more as the year progresses. Last year I completed the race in just over 8 hours and I finished in last place - so this time, the only way is up!! Help encourage me to shave off those minutes for sponsoring me in my training efforts - which you will be able to read about in my blog - http://howtocountyourblessings.wordpress.com/
All proceeds go to Patterdale Mountain Rescue, a locally based charity and a voluntary search and rescue team in charge of policing 140 square km of craggy terrain. The volunteers are on 24 hour call out and they operate in all weather to save the lives of those of us who put a foot wrong, or suffer an emergency whilst on a day out walking - and it can happen to any of us! So please dig deep.
