ME Research UK exists solely to fund high quality biomedical studies into the causes and treatment of ME/CFS. This illness affects approximately 250,000 people in the UK but is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised. We fund highly regarded, peer-reviewed research worldwide.

Story

My sister has chronic fatigue syndrome. She has suffered from this for a number of years. We don't know the causes of ME/CFS or how to treat it. As a result, her life is quite limited. She is unable to work and needs to use a wheelchair because she can unpredictably become very weak.

This summer I am very excited to take on the challenge of climbing Mont Blanc. This is a multi-day hike and will require the use of crampons and ice axes. I have been training to try and improve my endurance and lung efficiency. Supposedly, due to the altitude, the summit day is more challenging than running a marathon.

At the moment, my sister would not be able to consider going on adventures like this. It would be wonderful if completing one of my goals could in some way help her, and others in her position, to get better.
