Sepsis is one of our biggest unknown killers, unbelievably sepsis claims 37,000 lives every year in the UK and costs the NHS £2.5 billion a year. This is more than some cancers. I have, as with many of my nursing and medical friends, looked after patients with sepsis, either following surgery or from infections and it is a horrible experience to go through, both for patient and relatives.

However with the improvements and changes The UK Sepsis Trust have implemented across the NHS, there has and will continue to be, an improvement in early recognition and treatment, allowing for a greater surival rate. Their work is vital to this and I feel as a nurse it is my resposibility to show them my support but also get the word out there so more people can be made aware of this silent Killer!!
