Story
On the 26th February, I will be running the Brighton Half Marathon (13.1 miles) to raise money for Grassroots Suicide Prevention. This is a Brighton based charity that believes that no-one should contemplate suicide alone. The charity works locally and nationally with communities, organisations and individuals, helping them to become ready, willing and able to effectively support someone at risk of suicide.
In February 2015, my brother Simon committed suicide after struggling with the pain of depression for years. The devastating loss of a brother, a son, and a father is felt by me and my family every day. So, I'm running to raise money and awareness for Grassroots to help prevent other individuals and families from experiencing what Simon felt and what we have felt over the past few years.
Before training for the half marathon I hadn't run further than 5K (3.1 miles) and I'm certainly not a natural-born runner. So, if you do have a little spare money and fancy donating to an amazing cause, it will certainly help these tired and achy legs feel lighter!
A £6 donation can cover the cost of a set of materials for safeTALK suicide alertness, a £64 donation can cover the cost to train someone in safeTALK suicide alertness, and £655 pays for a safeTALK suicide alertness workshop for up to 30 people.
Please see the Grassroots Suicide Prevention website (www.prevent-suicide.org.uk) for more details.
