Story

"Prepare yourself for the worse" the man in the surgical scrubs said to me. I'd been sent to hospital for suspected Gallstones and they'd found something else. My initial thought was "s**t, I'm going to die! WTF do you mean, prepare yourself for the worse?!" "Well its highly likely to be cancer" he told me matter of factly. My first thought was relief! (Weird, I know!) at least I wasn't about to drop dead in the next day or 2! That's the worse, surely?! I CAN beat cancer! I can fight that little F**k, but death, now that's pretty much final.

It was 19th May 2017 (a dear friends wedding that I was a witness for) that the Macmillan nurse came to talk to me in my hospital bed about what's happened. Sam is her name and she's my new best friend (sorry girls, I'm fickle!) She told me in layman terms what the doctor told me in medical speel and she told me to get up, rush home, get dressed and get to that wedding! So i did just that.

Fast forward a week and I met with my designated colon consultant, Mr. Wright, with my parents and Sam for my results. I told Sam I didn't want doom and gloom or "it's not good news" crap, I want it straight and he did exactly as I asked. 2 days later I was having major surgery to remove a section of my colon where the cancer started (also took one ovary that had an enormous cyst growing on). I mean, come on! My insides have been having one hell of a party without my permission it appears!

I'm now home recovering and Sam has been on hand every step. Answering my panicky texts, calling me back after a late night frantic mind overload. I've still a long way to go, biopsy results, chemo, liver surgery, more chemo but I am going to beat this ba****d in my belly, I'll fight it with all I have.
