Four Non-Hairy Bikers!

My story:
In October 2020 I was relaxing in bed when I felt an itch. Nothing unusual in itself, but when I went to scratch it, there it was...... a lump in my right breast. I knew it hadn’t been there before and the anxiety was instant.
Trying to get a doctor’s appointment during Covid was nearly impossible so I contacted www.check4cancer.com who were amazing. I can’t recommend them enough.
After numerous mammograms, ultrasounds and biopsies I heard the words I’d been dreading since discovering the lump: “Miss Keightley, I’m sorry to tell you that you have breast cancer.” I was totally numb.
My treatment began with an operation, before moving on to many difficult months of Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy. Nothing can prepare you for the sickness, fatigue and hair loss. It was a long, hard road to travel, particularly when I should have been planning my wedding and looking forward to all the excitement that brings.
To cut a long story short, it’s been quite a journey. 18 months on I’m doing really well, but my treatment continues. Throughout all of this I’ve been fortunate enough to have the help and support of my amazing family and friends. However, I know others aren’t so lucky.
Myself and a few friends have challenged ourselves to bike to Hornsea from Chesterfield. Over three days, we’ll be cycling 120 miles on the Trans-Pennine trail to raise money for Cancer Research. It goes without saying that this charity is very close to my heart and many others who have had to battle this cruel disease. We’re definitely not cyclists, barely braving the pedals since childhood. Still, we’ve thrown ourselves (and our many ailments) into some amateur training and we’re all up for giving it our very best shot!
