Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
At six weeks old we found out that Thomas had a poorly heart. We firstly went to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, after 8 hours once Thomas was finally stable enough to be transferred to Birmingham Children's Hospital by the amazing KIDS ambulance.
Thomas had his first open heart surgery at six weeks old to have a benign tumour removed above his mitral valve and repaired as best they could as it was badly damaged. Thomas made great progress and once stable enough was taken off intensive care and onto the ward but on Boxing Day 2012 Thomas became very poorly again and was rushed back down to the intensive care for us to find out he had severe regurgitation with his poorly valve it was just to badly damaged.
On 28/12/12 Thomas was fitted with a mechanical mitral heart valve, he would now be on two daily injections to help thin his blood which Thomas's mommy trained to give him and other medications. Thomas picked up a nasty infection which delayed our return home but at the end of January 2013 we finally came home.
At 6 months old Thomas became very poorly again, after a short stay at the Princess Royal in Telford we were sent to Birmingham to have an ECO scan of his heart to rule everything out. Within 15 minutes of Thomas's scan he was rushed onto the intensive care for the third time for us to be told his mechanical mitral valve was failing, it wasn't working as his scar tissue had grown around it. Thomas was back in theatre before we could even believe what was happening again to our baby boy for his third open heart surgery to have a new mitral valve fitted.
Thomas will be 4 in November, we live each day to the full knowing how lucky we are to have our Thomas the trooper.
We want to return in every way we can to help out this fantastic hospital and I'm sure this will be the first of many fun runs we do.
