Story

Hello, and thank you for visiting our fundraising page. We have 4 stories to tell with 1 common theme and this theme is cancer. For this reason, we will be taking on a 26-mile walking challenge to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. We have all done a 26-mile walk before, some of us several times and this time will be enjoying the scenic Thames Path route on July 16th 2022. Please if you can, support us to raise vital funds. It is said that 1 in 2 of us will get cancer in our lifetime and Macmillan offers amazing support services for people at their greatest time of need. You can read our personal reasons for taking on this mighty challenge below: Becca: My dear nan was looked after in her last few days by a team of truly amazing Macmillan nurses. They were just brilliant and helped my family and I deal with some sad times, looking after my nan so she was able to see out her last few days with ease. I'm also doing this challenge for me! Best foot forward.. ! Stella: Having the diagnosis of cancer is very frighting, and you will ask the question if you will live or die. The Macmillan Cancer research is a vital part of your living, as the research and team of nurses are there for your every step. Pioneering new ideas and cures. If we can all play a small part in that research then we will all live through that painful experience. Kat: I completed the Mighty Hike in 2019 and I said never again. It was the biggest challenge I had ever done. My legs, knees and feet literally could not move properly by the end – I genuinely think I crawled a little bit! However 2022 is here and I got tempted for another challenge – one to support my own health and wellbeing and to give myself something to work towards after a pretty dismal 2 years I know I need to prioritise my own fitness and what better way to do that by raising money for Macmillan – a charity who has directly helped my family over the years and I know they are such a valuable source to families who have loved ones battling cancer. The funds raised directly will go to ensuring this amazing charity can continue to run its essential services. Sarah: I have personally been supported by Macmillan when I went through my own cancer diagnosis nearly 14 years ago. My Macmillan nurse, Marion was a voice of calm in the chaotic world that I suddenly found myself in, providing guidance, interpretation of medical language, tissues and lots of laughs (not necessarily in that order). She also opened up a network for me of people going through the same experience. Macmillan nurses give the time to listen and answer your endless questions and for their support, I am doing this challenge.
