Macmillan Cancer Support

We give you the support you need to live life as fully as you can

Charity Registration No. 261017

We are Macmillan!!!!

In 2016 we had to say goodbye to Charlotte Easton, after a 4 year battle with cancer. I never thought I would have to say goodbye to her as she always seemed so happy, so energetic - still racing bikes!!!!

In the same year a friend of mine, Nigel Bundy - blood biker and all round nice guy - was diagnosed with cancer. Nigel is fighting back, and kicking cancers' ass with the help of Macmillan.

So... what am I doing?!

I've supported the Devizes to Westminster (DW) canoe race since I was a little girl, always vowing never to do it myself after watching those I was supporting pull themselves to pieces just to complete the 125mile course. After losing Charlie it was a kick up the butt to get on and face my DW demon... and I'm going to do it for her.

In the lead up to DW I'll be competing in the Waterside Series... 88miles of kayaking spread over 4 races, each one held 2 weeks apart. The first one is in February - I have less than 7 weeks until racing starts!!!

Next step - boat to be decorated for the event!! Watch this space...

My goals:

1. Complete the 88mile Waterside Series, SUCCESS!

2. Complete the 88mile Waterside Series in under 15hrs. 14hrs 08mins... so close to the old record... I was 10mins off!!!!

3. Complete the DW - Starting on Good Friday!!!

4. Complete the DW in under 22hrs

You can follow my training through Instagram and Strava, both are "Kayak_Ro"

If you can spare even just £1 it all adds up :)

  • Happy training!
  • At the start of Waterside C, 23miles with 35portages, with Brian Greenham who cycled the whole way with me :)
