We provide quality care to help people thrive after a brain injury

Story

The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) is the UK's leading charity in brain injury rehabilitation. Kent House is a specialist residential centre providing continuing rehabilitation and specialist care and support for people with acquired brain injury (ABI). Clinical practice is based on a neurobehavioural approach and focuses on a combination of social and behavioural interventions to aid recovery of independence.

Working together with RemPods, we have already transformed several service user's bedrooms into therapeutic sensory rooms with vibrant vinyl wallpapers, LCD fish tanks, LED sky tiles and smell cubes. The Therapy Team would like to raise funds to provide this experience for all service users within our main communal area and kitchen hatch. The communal space is used during meal times, for daily recreational and therapeutic activities and entertainment and as a place to relax. A refurbishment of these areas will enhance their living experience at Kent House by transforming the clinical environment into a therapeutic reminiscent space for all to enjoy and socialise in.

We would be grateful for any money that goes towards this project. We are keen to make a difference and take one step further into creating a happy home in which our service users enjoy being in.

Therapy Team:

RemPods was first established in 2009 by Richard Ernest. Richard relocated from South East London to Gloucestershire in 2008 and was inspired to set up the innovative healthcare product when he formed a close relationship with an elderly neighbour.

In 2013, Richard had ideas to expand RemPods, but struggled to get support from the bank, leading him to brave a grilling on the BBC TV programme, Dragons’ Den.  Deborah Meaden and Peter Jones joined together and offered investment to expand the business.

“The process of going on the Dragons’ Den was somewhat overwhelming. It’s one of the scariest things I’ve ever done,”

”I was thrilled to leave the den with a £100,000 investment and the backing of Peter and Deborah. They’re the two dragons that I really wanted to work with and they will definitely bring a wealth of knowledge and experience.”
