Story
John Henry Blason died peacefully in hospital with his family by his side on 17th December 2015. Much loved husband of Val, and devoted father of Jo, Sarah, and Sam, JB as he was affectionately known lost his brave battle following a stroke he suffered during the late summer of that year.
For much of his 75 years John Henry Blason was the pillar of the Brixworth village community where he had grown up. Anyone who had the pleasure of playing cricket with or against John, who had stopped by for a friendly chat at the family garage or had met him at the many vintage car and tractor rallies for which he was proud to display his other loves, will remember the friendly unassuming gentleman, whose fond memory will live forever in our hearts.
JB worked tirelessly in the community, none more so for the local Cricket and Central Sports clubs, for which he was Chairman for over 30 years and 35 years respectively. His tireless work helping to ensure that sporting facilities in the village were accessible to all.
To recognise these achievements for both organisations, John's family and friends are delighted to announce that a cricket match is being held in his memory on Sunday 7th August at the St David's recreation ground, a place where he spent many a happy afternoon (and evening). The match will between a Central Sports X1 and a 'mature' Brixworth Cricket Club side consisting of John's friends who he spent many a happy time with on numerous cricket tours for which he was an ever present.
It would be wonderful to see as many people there to help celebrate John's life. There will be a social gathering throughout the afternoon at the Central Sports pavilion that John so very proudly helped to build as member of the very first Central Sports committee.
We hope to raise money on the day for the Stroke Association, a charity that is close to the hearts and minds of John's family. For those that are unfortunately unable to attend, or who wish to donate to this worthwhile cause which helps to fund research and researchers in the battle to improve stroke prevention, treatment and care, we have set up this JustGiving page.
